Jesus is the Light of the World

In the midst of a debate with His opponents, recorded only in John’s gospel, Jesus gave us His 2nd of seven “I am” statements. “I am the Light of the World. He who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). The Pharisees, whom He was arguing with, had a title for themselves: “Guides to the blind; lights to those walking in darkness.” (See Romans 2:19 where Paul uses this title for them.) But Jesus says that HE is the light of the world, not them. A heated argument erupted and that is captured in John Ch. 8.
