There is an old saying: Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. The book of Proverbs disagrees with that saying. Instead: “The tongue has the power of life and death . . .” (18:21). The power of the tongue is a major topic in Proverbs, with over 90 references. How important is the use of the tongue in God’s eyes?
