King David desired to build a temple for God in Jerusalem. He was prohibited, however, because he had fought many wars. While God gave David the plans for the temple (1Chronicles 28:19) and allowed him to amass many materials and offerings for the project, the task of building it fell to Solomon. He made this project a major 7-year priority early in his reign as king.
