The letter of 1John focuses on two key evidences of the reality of one’s faith in Jesus: obedience to His commands, and love for people. Of all the letters in the New Testament, John gives the most attention to the second theme – love for others as evidence of one’s love for God. Various forms of the word “love” occur 34 times in this short letter.
