Hebrews is one of the deepest and most challenging books in the New Testament. It contains so much theology that is founded upon a profound understanding of the Old Testament religious system, and how that system prefigured the person and work of Christ, our great High Priest and atoning sacrifice. The book was written to Jewish Christians who were considering abandoning their faith in Jesus because of severe persecution, probably around the time of Nero’s persecution of Christians.
